In recent years, Slow Coral has carried out a series of practices centered on “revival” and “renewal.” From the shores of West Lake to cities and scenic landscapes, we have consistently embraced a “light-touch” strategy—awakening dormant spaces and re-establishing a relaxed connection between people and nature. Most of these projects are not new constructions, but rather lightweight, sustainable updates of existing buildings. By controlling costs and minimizing disturbance, we seek to unlock new possibilities for each site. The restaurant renovation at the foot of Hupao Road continues this approach: with minimal intervention, it strikes a balance between architecture, operation, aesthetics, and nature, bringing new life to the dining experience.

江南小境中的空间期待
Spatial Expectations in a Jiangnan Corner

项目坐落于杭州满觉陇，位于虎跑路旁，群山环绕、林木掩映，街道氤氲着日常的烟火气息。沿着石阶拾级而上，入江南餐厅藏于绿意之中。

The project is located in Manjuelong, Hangzhou, just off Hupao Road, nestled among lush mountains and dense greenery. The street carries the warmth of everyday life. Climbing up the stone steps, one arrives at the Rujiangnan Restaurant, quietly tucked away in the midst of verdant foliage.

它不是典型的景区餐饮，也并非都市新潮地标，更像是一种夹在日常与隐逸之间的存在：朴素、安静，却也因时间与风景，孕育出微妙的情绪张力。这正是设计介入的起点，也是更新希望被悄然延续的理由。

It is neither a typical tourist-spot restaurant nor a trendy urban landmark. Instead, it exists somewhere between the everyday and the hidden—modest and quiet, yet infused with a subtle emotional tension shaped by time and scenery. This delicate balance marks the starting point of the design intervention, and the very reason why its renewal hopes to unfold gently, almost imperceptibly.

修旧如初，流线重生
Restored to Its Original Grace, with Circulation Reborn

餐厅保留了原始的立面与结构肌理，在结构不变的前提下进行梳理；修缮外部老化部分，维持其与周边环境的长期共生状态；新增廊道连接建筑之间的回廊，使流线得以自然延续，室内外的路径也重新获得连贯的体验。

The restaurant preserves its original façade and structural textures, with spatial reorganization carried out without altering the primary framework. Aging exterior elements were carefully repaired to maintain a long-term symbiotic relationship with the surrounding environment. A new corridor was added to link the buildings’ verandas, allowing for a natural continuation of circulation and a seamless connection between interior and exterior pathways.

空间褪色，让自然成为唯一焦点
As the Space Recedes, Nature Becomes the Sole Focus

进入室内，一切装饰被有意识地褪去。没有画作，没有多余的摆设，深色艺术漆覆盖墙面与顶棚，使它们退入背景。原有的老木地板被完整保留，在静默中承载着时间的温度，也成为空间中为数不多的记忆留痕。

Upon entering, all decoration has been intentionally stripped away. There are no artworks, no superfluous objects. Dark-toned textured paint covers the walls and ceiling, allowing them to recede into the background. The original wooden flooring is fully preserved—quietly bearing the warmth of time and serving as one of the few remaining traces of memory within the space.

光线顺着窗入，自然地铺陈在室内。窗框被简化为最轻微的结构，宛若透明的边界。一餐之间，真正的主角不是空间，而是窗外的自然，平静而丰盈。

Light filters through the windows, gently unfolding across the interior. The frames are reduced to the barest structure, like transparent boundaries. During a meal, the true protagonist is not the space itself, but the nature beyond the window, serene and abundant.

留白之境，自然即场所
A realm of emptiness, where nature itself becomes the place

包厢的氛围更为收敛，仿佛进入一方安静的容器。空间内深色的家具轮廓柔和沉稳，墙面与灯光低调内敛，营造出一种温暖而宁静的氛围。

At this moment, the view outside the window replaces all man-made decoration, becoming the only presence in the space worthy of contemplation. It needs no flourish—just a single tree, a patch of bamboo, is enough to evoke a moment of stillness and focus.

空间的语汇被极度简化，家具不再成为视觉焦点，而是退居一隅，安静地托起用餐本身。

The spatial language is stripped down to its essentials, furniture no longer commands visual attention but quietly recedes to the background, gently supporting the act of dining itself.

站在院中望向包厢，微微透出的桌面器皿与柔和的暖光，仿佛一首静谧而有序的乐章。最终呈现出的，是一个关于“退让”的设计。它并不主张自身的存在感，而是选择消隐在日常背后，将自然让渡给人的视线、感官与记忆。不再塑造空间，而是构建关系——当环境成为室内的一部分，人与景的关系也就成为空间真正的灵魂所在。原有空间被轻轻唤醒、顺势梳理，保留而非重构。一顿饭不仅被吃下，也被慢慢感知，被好好记住。

Standing in the courtyard looking toward the private room, the faintly visible tableware and the soft, warm light resemble a quiet and orderly melody. What ultimately takes shape is a design centered on restraint. It does not assert its own presence, but instead recedes into the background of the everyday, yielding space for nature to occupy the gaze, the senses, and memory. It’s no longer about shaping space, but about cultivating relationships—when the environment becomes part of the interior, the connection between people and landscape becomes the true soul of the space. The original structure is gently awakened and naturally clarified, preserved rather than reinvented. A meal is not only consumed, but slowly sensed, and meaningfully remembered.
